The Vampire's Night Orgy (1973)

As my battery was dying last night on the laptop, I was able to do something that had been in the works for what seems like ages. Yes, at last, I finally finished Undead: The Vampire Collection. My last film, The Vampire's Night Orgy. A 1973 Spanish entry into the vampire genre.

Plot/ A group of workers is traveling by bus to the town of Bojoni to work for an aristocratic family. The driver has a heart attack, and the group decides to drive to the near village of Tolnio instead, to spend the night and follow to Bojoni on the next morning. They find nobody in the apparently ghost city, but in the next morning, they meet the hospitable dwellers. Their bus has a problem in the engine, and they have to stay in Tolnio. Sooner they find that they are trapped in a vampire village.

I have to admit that this movie was definitely better than I expected and one of the more watchable European-horror entries in this set. The movie is dark and unusually atmospheric, something that just adds to the entertaining nature that the cinematography brought out. Really, this would be such an interesting place to live with the lack of a true sun and an eeriness that is perfectfor any type of horror movie.Unfortunately, that while entertaining, like many Euro-horror films of the era, there are definitely some flaws. There are long stretches where the pacing seems off, especially with some of the uneven cuts in the editing process on this version. On top of that, the jazzy score is very out of place and really a detriment to the eeriness created in the scenery and the dubbed audio has many moments where it is totally out of sync. In the end, this is a very enjoyable movie with more positives than negatives. This is definitely one of the better entries on this set and one that any fan of 1970s European-horror films should enjoy.

  1. Don't you wish you could bottle up the 70s Euro-horror atmosphere and add the storylines of British horror of that era? What a combo that'd be.
