Paranormal Activities at the Phoenix Arts Center



It has been some time since I have revisited my roots with writing and some of the great times I had in the field. While I do enjoy Cryptozoology and the search for unknown creatures, it is the whole of the supernatural that draws me in. With that in mind, I was given the opportunity to get back into the fold, teaching a session of paranormal classes with the Phoenix Arts Center. Come out and join me for this awesome class and join in with creating a documentary of what we found during the investigation. Classes will be:

Thursdays, Sept. 28 & Oct. 5, 6:30-7:30pm
at the Uniontown Cultural Center at

Friday, Oct. 13, 8-11pm at The State Theatre

For centuries, the Uniontown area has seen its share of the strange and unusual rise along the famed Chestnut Ridge. Now, in this Paranormal Activities class, students will have the opportunity to document and possibly capture evidence of the supernatural for themselves. Starting with a set of ghost hunting 101 classes, the students will learn about the different types of hauntings, the equipment used, and the detailed research needed to conduct a proper investigation. That knowledge will be put to the test with an organized evening investigation of the reportedly haunted State Theatre on none other than Friday the 13th! Once completed, the class will break down the evidence and work together to create a short documentary based on their findings. This class is geared towards teens and adults, but children 10 and up are welcome if a parent or guardian enrolls and attends with them.

Guests will document their discoveries, analyze them, and use them to create a short documentary. The cost is $75, and is open to ages 14 and up. 10 and up are welcome with an enrolled and participating adult guardian. Creep (2004)

Last night, I decided to get back into some horror movie enjoyment by hanging out on Netflix. After some time and debate, I decided on the British horror flick Creep from 2004. Plot/ Trapped in a London subway station, a woman is being pursued by a potential attacker as she heads into the unknown labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city's streets. When I saw this on Netflix, I could not put a finger on why I was not truly excited about watching this one. Now that I have seen Creep, I can understand my lack of excitement. This movie is not creepy at all; in fact other than the isolationism fear it creates, it lacks a gripping atmosphere. This linear, cliché driven storyline is decent and does feature a touch of violence. However, there is not much more to offer. The acting and script are only OK, and the ending does nothing. Really, there is nothing that makes this film stand-out in the crowded horror genre.

Super Shark (2011)

If you are avid reader of my blog, than you have read that, my daughter Jillian loves animal attack flicks, especially ones that have sharks in them. Fortunately for us, the SyFy Channel, The Asylum and other production companies have gone overboard recently with a plethora of shark attack flicks for us to choose from. Unfortunately, many of those feature hideous CGI and laughable to terrible storylines for our viewing pleasure. I guess it could be worse; she could be a Twilight fan. With another request for a shark movie pending, we decided to sit-down and watch 2011s, Super Shark. Plot/ An offshore drilling accident triggers the release of a giant prehistoric shark. When marine biologist Kat Carmichael arrives, she runs up against corporate front man Roger Wade, who plots with Stewart to disrupt her investigation. Yet another cheesy SyFy Channel low-budget shark attack flick is just what I needed, and to top it off, this one may be the worst of the bunch
